KABUL – Pentagon has declared India as the most reliable regional partnerin Afghanistan, reveals a recent report.
The US Department of Defense has described India as Afghanistan’s mostreliable regional partner in its latest report ‘Enhancing Security andStability in Afghanistan’.
“India is Afghanistan’s most reliable regional partner and the largestcontributor of development assistance in the region. India interprets thenew U.S. South Asia policy as an opportunity to increase its economicinvolvement with Afghanistan,” the report said, Khaama Press has reported.
According to the report, since late 2015, India has pledged $1 billion indevelopment assistance in addition to the approximate $2 billion alreadyspent on Afghan infrastructure. “India continues to invest in theTurkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline. Indiaprovides significant training opportunities for Afghan officers andenlisted personnel and has frequently offered to increase itsburden-sharing for Afghanistan.”
In regards to the influence of other regional actors over Afghanistansecurity, Pentagon has said Russia is engaging a wide range of actors inAfghanistan, including the Taliban, to secure its interests in Central Asiaand to expand its influence in the region.
