NEW DELHI – Narendra Modi government has listed two reasons for calling offdialogues with Pakistan.
India on Friday said that the ‘deeply disturbing’ events in last 24 hourshave exposed the ‘true face’ of the new government across the border.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the abovewords while officially confirming the news that India called off New Yorkmeeting which was scheduled next week.
‘Since yesterday’s announcement of a meeting between the Foreign Ministersof India and Pakistan in New York later this month, two deeply disturbingdevelopments have taken place.
The latest brutal killings of our security personnel by Pakistan-basedentities and the recent release of a series of twenty postage stamps byPakistan glorifying terrorist Burhan Wani confirm that Pakistan will notmend its ways,’ Kumar said while addressing media in New Delhi on Friday.
‘The decision to agree to Pakistan’s proposal for a meeting between theForeign Ministers of the two countries in New York later this month was inresponse to the spirit reflected in the letters from the new Prime Ministerand Foreign Minister of Pakistan. The letter from the Prime Minister ofPakistan had spoken of, inter alia bringing a positive change and mutualdesire for peace as also readiness to discuss terrorism,’ Kumar added.
‘Now, it is obvious that behind Pakistan’s proposal for talks to make afresh beginning, the evil agenda of Pakistan stands exposed and the trueface of the new Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been revealed tothe world in his first few months in office. Any conversation with Pakistanin such an environment would be meaningless,’ Kumar said in a stingingattack on the new government in Pakistan.
‘In view of the changed situation, there will be no meeting between theForeign Ministers of India and Pakistan in New York,’ Kumar further said.
