ISLAMABAD – The United Nations Security Council has rejected a Russianrequest to discuss the enactment of a Ukrainian language law.
In a procedural vote, France, Germany, the United States, Poland, Britainand Belgium voted against Russian request. Nine votes are required for theadoption of a contended provisional agenda item of the Security Council.
China voiced regret over the Security Council’s rejection of the Russianrequest.
In his remarks, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations MaZhaoxu said China hope that members of the council will respect oneanother, maintain unity, and effectively fulfill the council’s obligationof maintaining international peace and securit.
