SSP Rao Anwar likely to be arrested in fake encounter of Naqeebullah Mehsud: sources

KARACHI – SSP Rao Anwar involved in the fake encounter of the Waziristanboy Naqeebullah Mehsud is likely to be arrested along with his team,sources have revealed.

SSP Rao Anwar was held responsible for the fake encounter by the high levelinquiry committee formed by the Sindh government.

However the Case against former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) MalirRao Anwar has not yet been registered following the probe into NaqeebullahMehsud’s extrajudicial killing in an alleged police encounter in Karachi.

The police have opted the stance that an FIR will not be lodged against anyofficer until Naqeeb’s family members file an official report.

On the other hand, the Additional Inspector-General (AIG) ofCounter-Terrorism Department (CTD) contacted the deceased’s cousin and helddiscussion about the case after Dunya News raised the issue.

It is worth mentioning here that former SSP Malir Rao Anwar was sacked fromhis post on Saturday following the probe into Naqeebullah Mehsud’s killing.

The inquiry committee had recommended removing Rao Anwar after no evidencepertaining to Naqeeb’s involvement in terrorism was found and the encounterwas termed as ‘suspicious’.

“The committee is of unanimous opinion that in order to ensure fair andtransparent enquiry of the incident and investigation into the case, SSPMalir Rao Anwar and SP Investigation-II East Malik Altaf Sarwar may betransferred and placed under suspension,” read the press release issued byInspector General of Police Sindh AD Khowaja.

Following the recommendation of Sindh IG, provincial Home Minister SohailAnwar Siyal directed to put the name of Rao Anwar in Exit Control List(ECL). Moreover; the ministry also informed Federal Investigation Agency(FIA) of the matter.
