Pakistan Navy Chief attends 23rd International Sea Power symposium in US, meets high level dignitaries

WAHINGTON – Naval Chief Zafar Mahmood Abbasi attended the 23rdInternational Sea power Symposium in the United States.

The purpose of the three day symposium is to provide a forum for seniorinternational naval leaders to discuss common maritime challenges andopportunities to enhance international maritime security cooperation.

On the occasion, the Naval Chief also met with US officials and his Turkishand Brazilian counterparts. They discussed bilateral cooperation andsecurity in the Indian Ocean.

Earlier, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, who is on an official visit to theUnited States met various dignitaries there.

The Naval chief held separate meetings with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson,Acting Asia Pacific (DoD Policy), Randall Shriver, President Center for NewAmerican Security, Richard Fontaine, Vice President Heritage, Dr.James JayCarafano and Chief Executive Officer Atlantic Council, Fredrick Kempe.

During the meetings, matters of mutual interest including bilateral defenceties and security environment in Indian Ocean Region were discussed. The USdignitaries appreciated the role and contribution of Pakistan formaintaining peace and stability in the maritime domain.

The Naval Chief highlighted that Pakistan and US shared common perspectiveof having stable, secure and peaceful maritime environment to supportglobal economy.
