Pakistan Afghanistan Relations: Breakthrough Reported in Kabul

KABUL – The interim Afghan government has assured Pakistan that Afghan soilwill not be allowed to be used against Pakistan or any third country,reaffirming its commitment to regional stability. The pledge came during ahigh-level meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and ForeignMinister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi AmirKhan Muttaqi on the sidelines of the Sixth China-Pakistan-AfghanistanTrilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue in Kabul.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two sides held detaileddiscussions on bilateral relations, trade, security, and counterterrorismcooperation. Both foreign ministers expressed satisfaction over recentimprovements in Pak-Afghan ties, noting the upgrade of diplomaticrepresentation from charge d’affaires to ambassadorial level as asignificant step forward.

The talks also reviewed progress made since earlier interactions in Kabul(April and July 2025) and the Beijing trilateral meeting. Officialshighlighted that many of the agreed decisions had already been implementedor were near completion, particularly in the areas of trade facilitationand transit cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar welcomed the positive momentum but stressed theurgent need for more “concrete and effective” actions in counterterrorism.Citing recent terror attacks in Pakistan, he called for immediate andpractical measures against militant outfits such as Tehreek-e-TalibanPakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) Majid Brigadeoperating from Afghan territory.

In response, Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi reiterated Afghanistan’scommitment that no terrorist group would be allowed to use Afghan soilagainst Pakistan or any other country.

The meeting underscored the strategic importance of Pakistan–Afghanistanties for regional peace and prosperity. Stronger cooperation in security,trade, and connectivity, both sides agreed, is vital not only for the twoneighbors but also for broader regional stability and economic integration.
