Pakistan Army troops deployed at sensitive areas of Gilgit Baltistan

GILGIT BALTISTAN – Pakistan Army troops have been deployed in thesensitive areas of Gilgit Baltistan.

Troops were deployed alongside local security officials in GilgitBaltistan’s (GB) Ghizar valley after militants attacked and torched policecheck posts on Sunday.

According to sources, militants torched a seasonal check post and policecamps near Saingal village in Ghizar valley. Following an exchange of firewith the security officials, the militants managed to escape from theincident site with ammunition.

The security parameters were heightened and police officials were stationedin Ghizar for the last two weeks in anticipation of terrorists’ involved inDiamer school attacks finding refuge in the valley.

Earlier this month, a security operation was launched after unidentifiedattackers believed to be militants opposed to girls’ education bombed andtorched a dozen schools, including an Army Public School, in various partsof Diamer district on August 2, triggering road protests and blockade ofthe Karakoram Highway.

Most of the schools were all-girls while at least one of the institutionshad been attacked at least five times in recent years.
