ISLAMABAD- Meesha Shafi has alleged that musician and actor Ali Zafarsubjected her to sexual harassment on more than one occasion.
“Today, I speak up because my conscience does not allow me to be silentanymore,” said Meesha in her statement. “If this can happen to someone likeme, an established artist, then it can happen to any young woman hoping tobreak into the industry and that concerns me gravely.”
She continued: “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexualharassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from myindustry: Ali Zafar.
These incidences did not happen when I was young, or just entering theindustry. This happened to me despite the fact that I am an empowered,accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to meas a mother of two children.”
Shafi is a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry: she hasfeatured prominently in Coke Studio, in international cinema like *TheReluctant Fundamentalist*, and local drama serials like *Mor Mahal*.
She is a vocal supporter of human rights; she featured in UN WomenPakistan’s recent campaign that aimed to raise awareness about violenceagainst women, and on social media she has also come out in support of the#MeToo movement.
