ISLAMABAD – Three countries claimed to be behind the missile attack onIranian oil ship in Red Sea.
A senior Iranian lawmaker has blamed the United States, Israel and SaudiArabia for the recent attack on an Iranian tanker in the Red Sea andpledged to take the matter to the United Nations.
Abolfazl Hassan Beigi, a member of the national security and foreign policycommittee in Iran’s parliament, claimed on Wednesday that footage taken bycameras on the tanker points to the three countries, which are locked in acold war with Iran.
“There are abundant documents and evidence of interference of certaingovernments in the attack against the Iranian oil tanker and they will bepresented to the UN and the UN Security Council,” the lawmaker said, asquoted by Fars News, adding that those behind the attack should “pay theprice” for their actions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s security chief Ali Shamkhani on Wednesday pledged to“give a response” that will make those behind the attack “regret their act.”
The Iranian oil tanker Sabiti caught fire on 11 October as it was headingto Syria on the Red Sea. At the time of the incident, the vessel was around100 kilometres from the Saudi port of Jeddah.
The Sabiti belongs to the National Iranian Tanker Company, which haspublished photoslinkthatappear to show two holes in the ship above the waterline. The company saidthe Sabiti was likely hit by two missiles, reportedly leading to anexplosion and an oil leak that was quickly stopped, Sputnik has reported.
