President Ashraf Ghani s new olive branch to Afghan Taliban

KABUL – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani once again invited the Talibangroup to peace talks as he emphasized that the upcoming elections is a goodopportunity for the group and the Afghan nation.

Speaking during a meeting of the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board inKabul, President Ghani said the laws and regulations are modified in othercountries to pave the way for the participation of the participation of theopposition groups in the elections.

However, he said there are no such issues in the laws of Afghanistan and itwould be better to conclude a peace deal before the elections rather thanreaching an agreement after the elections.

In regards to the ongoing efforts for the Afghan-led peace process,President Ghani said a consensus is on the verge of building in the Islamicworld for the Afghan reconciliation, international consensus has alreadybeen achieved and regional consensus exists up to 70 per cent.

He said an Islamic conference was organized in Saudi Arabia as a similarconference was organized in support of Afghanistan in Brussels.

According to President Ghani, the Imams of Saudi mosques and the Saudi Kinghave delivered remarkable statements in support of peace process inAfghanistan.

He said the perceptions that the international community does not wantpeace in Afghanistan has proved as false as a consensus exist oninternational, regional, as well as in Islamic countries in support of thepeace initiative of Afghanistan.
