Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed: Career profile of new DG ISI

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday appointed Lt Gen Faiz Hameed as newhead of the country’s premier intelligence agency, the Inter-ServicesIntelligence (ISI).

On April 12, the Pakistan Army had promoted then-Major General Faiz Hameedto the rank of lieutenant general and appointed him adjutant general at theGeneral Headquarters (GHQ) later that month. He was previously serving asthe head of the internal security wing at the ISI, where he stayed foraround two-and-a-half years.

He will now return to head the intelligence agency, replacing Lt Gen AsimMunir.

Lt Gen Hameed is from the Baloch Regiment. He has also commanded a divisionin Pano Aqil. He was also among those who brokered the Faizabad agreementin 2017 between protesters from various religious groups and the thengovernment, signing the agreement in the capacity of ‘guarantor’.

In other posting and transfers, Lt Gen Asim Munir has now been posted asthe Corps Commander Gujranwala, according to the Inter-Services PublicRelations (ISPR).

Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, who was also promoted to the rank ofthree-star general this April, has now been posted as the Adjutant Generalof the Pakistan Army at the GHQ. Lt Gen Amir Abbasi has been appointedQuarter Master General at the GHQ while Lt Gen Moazm Ijaz has been made asengineer-in-chief.
