ISLAMABAD – A suo moto notice has been taken by the Chief Justice ofPakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Lahore High Court’s decision to bar Pemrafrom transmission of anti-judiciary speeches by former prime minister NawazSharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and leaders of their party, PakistanMuslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The hearing on the notice would be held today at 1pm. In this regardnotices has been issued to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority(Pemra) while record of the suo motu notice has also been sought.
Earlier, on April 16, Lahore High Court (LHC) rule the verdict on over twodozen petitions filed against ‘anti-judiciary’ speeches by Nawaz Sharif,Maryam Nawaz, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other party leaders.
The court ordered Pemra to decide on the petitions in 15 days and till thenwas being stopped from airing any contemptuous remarks.
