Chinese foreign minister officially responds over terror attack in IOK

BEIJING – Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hascondemned the suicide attack in Kashmir in which at least 40 CRPF personnelwere killed, saying Beijing “resolutely opposes” all forms of terrorism andcountries in the region should enhance cooperation and jointly address thethreat of posed by it.

At least 40 CRPF personnel were killed and many injured on Thursday in oneof the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when aJaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kgof explosives into their bus in Pulwama district.

In a condolence message to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj onFriday, Wang said he was “shocked to learn that a suicide attack wascarried out in Kashmir and heavy casualties were caused”.

While extending condolences, he said “terrorism is the common enemy ofmankind. The Chinese side resolutely opposes and strongly condemns allforms of terrorism”.

Expressing sympathy to the families of the victims, he said “countries inthe region should enhance cooperation, jointly address the threat ofterrorism and maintain regional peace and security”.

Wang’s message came on the same day Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman GengShuang expressed deep “shock” over the Pulwama terror attack carried out bya Jaish suicide bomber but did not give an assurance to India that it willback New Delhi’s appeal to list Azhar as a global terrorist.

“China has noted the reports of suicide terrorist attack. We are deeplyshocked by this attack. We express deep condolences and sympathy to theinjured and bereaved families,” Shuang told reporters here when asked aboutthe incident.
