In a first, PTI government to establish Poverty Alleviation Coordination Council in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly resumed its session at the parliamenthouse in Islamabad on Thursday with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.

The National Assembly was informed that poverty alleviation coordinationcouncil is being established to synergize the efforts of variousorganizations for poverty alleviation.

Minister for Planning and Development Makhdoom Khurso Bukhtiar told thehouse during question hour that the scope of Benazir Income SupportProgram, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and Pakistan Baitul Mal arebeing expanded to graduate the poor people out of poverty.

He said our efforts are to divert resources to the development of lessdeveloped areas. He said we are expanding coverage of health insurancescheme and up-scaling efforts to reduce stunted growth of children.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan told theHouse that Islamabad Food Security Act has been prepared which envisagesthe establishment of Islamabad Food Authority to check food adulteration.
