Amnesty International launches campaign for ban on pellet gun use in occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD – International human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, haslaunched a postcard campaign and an online petition to press for the ban onthe use of pellet gun in Indian Held Kashmir.

The drive is meant to put pressure on India to conduct an independentinvestigation into cases of killings and serious injuries caused by thepellets and bring people from across held territory to write postcards topuppet Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Executive Director Amnesty International India Aakar Patel has said “it isshameful that the serious concerns raised repeatedly regarding the use ofpellet-firing guns have failed to receive sufficient attention from thegovernment,” .

Campaigner Amnesty International India Zahoor Wani said “through thiscampaign, we want to send a message that the people of Kashmir want animmediate end to the use of pellet-firing shotguns.”

The Amnesty says the use of pellet shotguns in Occupied Kashmir violatesinternational standards on the use of force.
