Pakistan NSA Nasser Janjua to leave for China for SCO summit

BEIJING – National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua will attend the 13thMeeting of Security Council Secretaries of the Shanghai CooperationOrganization (SCO) to be held here from May 21 to 22, Chinese ForeignMinistry spokesman Lu Kang announced on Wednesday.

“The meeting is the first of its kind since the SCO accepted new members,and its priority is to make political and security preparations for the SCOSummit to be held next month in Qingdao,” Lu told a regular media briefinghere.

According to Lu, participants will exchange in-depth views over issuesincluding the regional security situation of the SCO, cooperation infighting the “three evil forces” of terrorism, separatism and extremism,drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, as well as guaranteeinginternational information safety.

“We believe that with the joint efforts of all parties, the meeting willfurther build consensus among member states on security cooperation, andinject new impetus to the security cooperation of SCO,” he said.

Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi willattend and chair the meeting. Representatives from India, Kazakhstan,Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the SCO will also attend themeeting.

During the meeting, Chinese leaders will also meet with heads ofdelegations from participating parties. – APP
