Nawaz Sharif gets a blow from LHC

LAHORE: Nawaz Sharif gets a blow from the Lahore High Court (LHC) onMonday.

LHC has imposed a temporary ban on the airing of contemptuous speeches byformer prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other party leaders.

Giving the decision on over two dozen petitions filed against’anti-judiciary’ speeches by Nawaz, daughter Maryam, Prime Minister ShahidKhaqan Abbasi and other party leaders, the court ordered the PakistanElectronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to decide on the petitions in15 days and until that time refrain from airing any contemptuous remarks.

Justice Yawar Ali dissolved the bench for the third time after JusticeShahid Jamil Khan recused himself from the case

Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi, who headed a three-member full bench, also ruledthat the court will personally monitor PEMRA’s conduct in the next twoweeks to see how it implements the court’s order.

More than a dozen petitions had been filed in the LHC contending that thePakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership had been making derogatory speechesagainst Supreme Court judges since the verdict of Nawaz’s disqualificationin the Panama Papers case last year.
