ISLAMABAD -State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad KhanWednesdayinformed the National Assembly that government was working on a planto establish Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA) to oversee themedia in the country.
Responding to a query during question hour, he said, “The Ministry ispresently working on establishing a Pakistan Media Regulatory Authoritywhich envisages a proposal of formation of a tribunal to address thegrievances related to media”.He said that media regulatory authority would also look into the issueof the working journalists being fired by the media houses without anyreason. The authority will also examine the issue of journalists, he added.
To another question, he said Pakistan Electronic Media RegulatoryAuthority (PEMRA) was looking into the content of the programmes, airedby the television channels.

The PEMRA was also monitoring that no television channel shouldtelecast any programme against the country, culture and religion.
