ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday has directed thegovernment, civil society and religious scholars to play their role incontrolling the rapid growth in population.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar headed an apex court bench andannounced its verdict in a suo motu case pertaining to the uncheckedpopulation growth in the country.
During the hearing, the bench observed that the growing population isputting a strain on the country’s resources and stressing the need for acountrywide campaign to combat it.
“This is the question of future generations. The entire nation will have towork together for family planning and wage a war against the populationgrowth” bench observed.
Earlier on Monday, the apex court inquired about the credibility ofpopulation surveys and said any plan would go in vain if survey statisticswere not accurate.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said the population situation would beserious if the government didn’t implement recommendations of the taskforce, formed with a task assigned to control rapid population growth.
