Lahore: A petition has been filed in Lahore High Court against theamendment to Section 232 of the Election Act, which extends thedisqualification period to 5 years.
According to the details, a petition has been filed against the amendmentto Section 232 of the Election Act, extending the disqualification periodto 5 years.
The petition was filed in Lahore High Court by Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, inwhich it was argued that under Article 62-F, the disqualification period of5 years has been prescribed, and the Supreme Court has already interpretedArticle 62-F.
The amendment to the Supreme Court’s decisions on the amendment is beingcontested, and it is demanded that the courts declare the amendmentextending the disqualification period for 5 years as void.
It is worth remembering that the National Assembly had unanimously passed abill to extend the maximum sentence for disqualification to five years.
The passage of this bill had paved the way for former Prime Minister NawazSharif and the head of the Pakistan People’s Party, Jahanagir Tareen, tocontest elections.
