NEW YORK – The UN Security Council Security Council and Secretary-GeneralAntonio Guterres Saturday strongly condemned the “heinous” terroristattacks in Pakistan that killed and wounded many people, and expressedsupport to the Pakistani government and people in the fight againstterrorism.
In separate statements, they expressed their deepest sympathy andcondolences to the families of the victims and to the government and wisheda speedy and full recovery to the injured.
Also, in a message to Pakistan UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, the Chef deCabinet the Secretary-General called the Mastung attack “deeply disturbingand saddening”, and said, “On behalf of the Secretary-General and on myown, I would like to convey heartfelt condolences to the families of thevictims.”
In their press statement, the members of the Security Council described theattack in Mastung as “heinous and cowardly” , and reaffirmed that terrorismin all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most seriousthreats to international peace and security.
“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bringperpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensibleacts of terrorism to justice and urged all States, in accordance with theirobligations under international law and relevant Security Councilresolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan and allother relevant authorities in this regard, the statement said.“The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorismare criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever,whenever and by whomsoever committed.
“They reaffirmed the need for all states to combat by all means, inaccordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligationsunder international law, including international human rights law,international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats tointernational peace and security caused by terrorist acts.” – APP
