ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Railways has initiated as many as 42 cases ofcorruption, misappropriation and fraud in its attached departments,subordinate offices and corporations during the period of last four years.
According to available document, with this initiative, the earnings of theministry was increased as compared with the earning of previous years andthere was also decline in corruption, misappropriation cases was reportedduring last four years.
The officers and officials involved in corrupt practices were duly taken upand given strict punishments including major punishment of dismissal fromservices.
The public sector in the country is substantially struck with corruptionand to curb corrupt practices in government functionaries was a priority atall levels.
The document said the Directorate of Vigilance was restored for ensuringinternal checking mechanism to stop corrupt practices proactively andvigilantly.
It added in its fight against corruption, the Ministry has adopted aholistic and pronged approach to achieve integrity and maintainingstandards.
The Ministry has also adopted a number of safeguarding measures to preventcorruption both at the macro and micro level by introducing ethos oftransparency, accountability and efficiency in administration and financialmanagement of its departments.
