Pakistan Iran to enhance defence cooperation: Report

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Iran have called for expansion of defensecooperation aimed at strengthening security and stability in the region.

In a telephone conversation with Defence Minister Pervez Khattak onWednesday, his Iranian counterpart Amir Hatami hoped that during the newPakistani government and under the political will of the leaders of the twonations, Iran and Pakistan would be able to make up for the pastshortcomings in bilateral relations, Mehar News Agency reported.

Hatami expressed the confidence that Pakistan, as a major country in theMuslim world, would continue to play a positive role in line with theinterests of the Islamic Ummah.

“The current crises in the region and Muslim countries, particularly inYemen, have no political solution, but rather, they need to be settledthrough dialogue and political approaches,” said the Iranian DefenseMinister.

Hatami further stressed that development of joint cooperation in economic,trade and defense sectors between Iran and Pakistan would also promotesecurity and stability in the region.

Pervez Khattak highlighted the need for expansion of relations between thetwo countries to further strengthen peace and security in the region.

He hoped that the cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad would develop invarious fields. – APP
