PTI female leader arrested in Karachi: Police

KARACHI – A female worker of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) wasarrested on Monday for reportedly pushing a security guard and forciblytrying to enter the provincial election commissioner’s office in Karachiwhere she had arrived with a woman candidate of the party to filenomination papers for the July 25 elections, police said.

Clifton SP Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem said Asma Rizvi along with a PTIcandidate arrived at the election commissioner’s office where a tokensystem has been in place for visitors. Instead of waiting for her turn,Rizvi allegedly tried to forcibly enter the office by shoving a guard whowas posted there. The glass of a door at the office also shattered when shepushed him.

Preedy police detained the PTI worker and registered a case on thecomplaint of an employee of the provincial election commissioner’s officeunder Sections 427 (mischief), 353 (assault or criminal force to deterpublic servant from discharge of his/her duty) and 506 (criminalintimidation), revealed SP Naeem.

She was subsequently handed over to the women police station for furtherlegal action.

According to SSP South Sarfraz Nawaz Shaikh, an extra layer of security wasdeployed at the office following the incident.
