Amid the intense scrutiny on Facebook over the last few weeks regardingdata privacy, the Facebook-owned company has upped its content game bygiving users more power over their data. “We are building a new dataportability tool. You’ll soon be able to download a copy of what you’veshared on Instagram, including your photos, videos and messages,” *TechCrunch* quoted a company’s spokesperson.
Despite being around for almost eight years, Instagram users currently lackthe option to download or save their own or their followers’ pictures andvideos, unlike its parent company. However, details such as the timelinefor when the update is expected to be introduced and whether users willonly be able to download their own data or also of their friends remainundisclosed.
According to *Variety, *the news about the upgrade comes after Europe’sGeneral Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is all set for implementation onMay 25. GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data privacy and protection forthe individuals within the region.
