TEHRAN – An Iranian couple has been arrested after a marriage proposal inpublic, that was captured on a video clip that went viral on social media.
Police have said the pair offended Islamic mores on public decency, butwere later released on bail.
The video, which spread on social media last Friday, shows the young manstanding in a heart-shaped ring of flower petals next to colourful balloonsin a mall in the central city of Arak.
After the young woman says “yes”, he slips a ring on her finger to cheersfrom onlookers. The two weren’t identified.
Mostafa Norouzi, deputy police chief in Arak, told the Shahrvand daily thatit’s unacceptable for the young “to do whatever is common in other placesof the world and disregard mores, culture and religion”.
However, the police have said that it’s the couple was arrested becausethat was the public demand.
Mahmoud Khalaji, deputy police commander of Markazi province, told Iran’sFars news agency that the couple had been taken into custody due to “publicdemand”.
