Former government servant arrested on corruption suspicion of Rs 30 crore released by NAB: Sources

ISLAMABAD – National Accountability Bureau has reportedly released theformer government servant arrested on corruption suspicion.

The ex-government official who was raided by the National AccountabilityBureau’s (NAB) Lahore wing on Friday and recovered 330 million from hishouse was released on the same night, sources confirmed to Daily Pakistanon Sunday.

Khawaja Waseem, a former 16-grade government officer, was retired 20 yearsago from the Excise Department as an inspector and was not an employee onanti-graft watchdog, it was revealed.

The sources further claimed that the NAB’s team arrested the govt officerwithout any arrest warrants and released him on Friday night without anylegal formalities.

“The amount recovered by the Bureau’s team was legal as the person inquestion had declared assets of 800 million in his tax returns “, thesources added.

After his retirement, “the accused first started working with the LahoreStock Exchange (LSE) and then started his own business of money exchangebehind Faletti’s hotel,” he maintained.

When NAB officials visited his house, the sources said, they found stacksof money, but the accused provided them proof of taxes paid on his money.NAB officials, however, asked Waseem to produce that evidence in the court.
