*NEW DELHI – Hailed as one of the greatest cricketers ever, Indian battingmaestro Sachin Tendulkar revealed that he thought about quitting after hisdebut Test innings against Pakistan back in 1989 at Karachi.*
“First innings of my life, in Karachi, I thought it would be my first andlast innings. In the first match, I had no idea. Waqar bowling from oneend, Wasim going full-throttle from the other. And they had just startedreverse-ball. To go there and play suddenly, I was completely out ofplace,” said Tendulkar, quoted the *Indian Express*.
However, Sachin, who was 16 years old back then, sought advice from hisseniors to take some more time.
“I took advice from everyone in the dressing room and they told me to spendsome more time on it. ‘This is international cricket. You’re playingpossibly the best bowling attack in the world. Give them that respect.’Second innings of my life, I scored 59 runs. I got back to the dressingroom and looked at myself and said, ‘You have done it,’” he said.
The teenager then went on to become one of the biggest stars of the game,achieving almost every major batting record possible, scoring over 34,000international runs, featuring 100 centuries.
