*KARACHI – The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday said thatthey had arrested a high-profile terrorist and foiled a major terror bid inKarachi.*
According to CTD in-charge Raja Umar Khattab, the suspected terrorist,Mohammad Ishaque aka Gul, was arrested by CTD and two suicide jackets wererecovered from his possession. Two hand grenades were also recovered duringthe operation.
Umer Khattab also said that the suspect reached Karachi from Afghanistanvia Balochistan and Sindh. “He was in Karachi for terrorist activity, andthe arrested terrorist is associated with banned outfit,” Khattab claimed.
A first information reports (FIR) was filed against the suspected terroriston charges of murder, kidnapping for ransom and robbery. “They were alsoinvolved in attacks on law enforcement agencies.”
Ishaque, after reportedly escaping from a police encounter in 2008, wentinto hiding in Afghanistan. Several accomplices of the arrested terroristhave been killed while several remain under arrest.
