Former PM Nawaz Sharif files another application in Supreme Court

*ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has filed afreshapplication in the Supreme Court for early hearing of his bail plea onMonday.*

In the application, he contended that his health has already deterioratedand the bail case should be fixed for hearing this week.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had dismissed former prime minister NawazSharif’s plea for early hearing of the bail petition.

The court ruled that Nawaz Sharif’s bail plea will be fixed on its turn.

Nawaz Sharif, through his counsel Khawaja Haris, had requested the court tofix the bail petition on March 6.

Nawaz Sharif had challenged the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict on hispetition seeking bail on medical grounds in the SC. Nawaz Sharif petitionedthe SC against a decision by the IHC rejecting him bail in Al-Aziziacorruption reference. The former premier’s counsel Khawaja Haris earlierfiled a petition in the apex court seeking that the IHC decision bedeclared null and void.

A day earlier, the former premier’s legal team has received a copy of theoriginal document of the decision from the high court. Nawaz was sentencedto seven years in prison and fined Rs1.5 billion and US$25 million in theAl-Azizia corruption reference, in a verdict by an accountability court onDecember 24, 2018.
