Complete shutdown in Kashmir over martyrdom anniversary of Maqbool Butt

SRINAGAR – Complete shutdown is being observed on Sunday on the martyrdomanniversary of prominent Kashmiri leader Maqbool Butt in Indian-occupiedKashmir (IoK).

Call for shutdown and March has been given by Joint Resistance Leadershipcomprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik topress demand for return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt andanother Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru to their families.

Meanwhile, the puppet authorities have put Hurriyat leaders, Syed AliGilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik under house detentionto prevent them from leading the march.

Life remained paralyzed across Kashmir valley due to a shutdown called onthe hanging of Maqbool Butt and restrictions imposed by the authorities inparts of Srinagar city to thwart protests.

All shops and business establishments in Srinagar and other major towns areclosed while traffic is off the road.

Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar jail on this day in1984 and was buried in the premises of the prison.
