Worried over occupied Kashmir control, Indian Army Chief makes offer to Kashmiri leaders

NEW DELHI – The Indian Army Chief seemed worried over control in occupiedKashmir and has offered talks to Kashmiri separatists, Indian media hasreported.

Rawat, speaking at his annual press conference, also said the situation inJammu and Kashmir needs to be improved further.

“Situation in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be brought under better control.We are adopting hard power and soft power approach. But the offer toterrorists to come over ground, look at peace is always there as who isgetting affected by this? People of Kashmir themselves,” he said.”We areonly facilitators for peace in J&K,” he added.

When asked about the possibility of talks with separatists in J&K, Rawatsaid, “Our position is very clear that shun the gun and stop taking supportfrom the western neighbour. Talks can happen only if they shun violence.”

On the situation along the China and Pakistan border, Gen Rawat said, “Wehave managed the situation well along the northern and western borders.” Headded that there should be no cause for concern.
