PESHAWAR – In Khyber Pakhtunkwa, by elections in PK 23 were held today.
Shaukat Yousafzai of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the by-electionto PK-23 Shangla with 42,116 votes on Monday, according to the unofficialresults.
Muhammad Rashad Khan of the PML-N was the runner-up with 22,315 votes.
One hundred and thirty-five polling stations had been established acrossthe constituency.
The results of PK-23 Shangla were declared invalid by the ElectionCommission of Pakistan, as the turnout of women voters was less than 10percent during the recent general elections.
PTI’s Shaukat Yousufzai won the election with 17,399 votes, but was notdeclared the winner. The turnout of women voters was less than 10% in theconstituency. The Election Act, 2017 requires the election commission todeclare an election null and void if the women’s turnout in theconstituency is less than 10% of its total polled votes.
There are 86,728 female voters in the constituency and 113,827 male voters.On July 25, only 3,505 women came to vote.
