ISLAMABAD – Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who was declared absconderin a corruption reference, has reportedly filed an application seekingasylum in the United Kingdom.
The embattled leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has soughtpolitical asylum in Britain citing issues in Pakistan and health condition,Express News reported.
The development, which has not been confirmed by any PML-N leader yet,comes as the Supreme Court of Pakistan tightened the noose around Dar fornot appearing before the court despite being summoned in the casepertaining to the appointment of Pakistan Television former chairman Ata ulHaq Qasmi as managing director of the state-run TV.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday warned he will cancelformer the passport of former finance minister Ishaq Dar over no-show.
CJP Nisar added that the Supreme Court will mull over issuing red warrantsagainst the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who has alsobeen declared absconder by an accountability court in a corruptionreference.
The former minister has been staying in London since October 2017 onaccount of his medical treatment; he has also been declared a proclaimedoffender in a corruption case filed against him by the NationalAccountability Bureau (NAB).
Recently, Dar was seen avoiding harsh questions aimed at him by newsmen inLondon when he was leaving the Harley Street Clinic, after having visitedBegum Kulsoom Nawaz.
One of the newsmen asked Dar that he was ailing, yet continued roamingoutside. To which, he replied that he was ill and he knew it.
