RAWALPINDI – DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor while answering a seriesof questions regarding allegations about army’s role in the “politicalengineering”, has said that there was no election in which politicalparties didn’t level rigging allegations .
He said armed forces, during the last five years performed nationalduties and it paved the way for peaceful atmosphere in which theelection is going to take place.
“We have tolerated things which in normal circumstances wouldn’t havebeen tolerated,” he said.
He said during the talkshows people can say what they like to. “But ourfield commanders are not allowed to go out and give their opinion,” hesaid.
“We are tolerating this because we know where we are heading,” he said.
“If we admit political engineering, at the end of the day it is the voterwho going to cast his vote.
Is it possible for anyone to go to every door step and ask them to vote fora certain candidate?” he asked.
The Major General rejected the allegations levelled against a senior armyofficer.
He said people levelling allegations against General Faiz are not aware ofthe his responsibilities and services.
Responding to a question regarding the election symbol of Jeep allotted toa large number of independent candidates, he said it was electoral bodythat issued the symbol instead of he ISI.
“It is not our jeep,” he said jokingly.
