LHC gives orders in Maryam Nawaz petition for name removal from the Exit Control List

ISLAMABAD – Lahore High Court gives orders in Maryam Nawaz petition forname removal from the Exit Control List.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered on Monday the government’s reviewcommittee to decide on the matter of removal of Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz’s name from the Exit Control List(ECL) within seven days.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najfi took up Maryam’spetition. Her lawyer Advocate Amjad Pervaiz also appeared before thehearing and presented his arguments. After his arguments, the benchdisposed off the petition and directed the government’s review committee todecide on the matter in a week, local media reported.

In her petition, Maryam said that she wants to go abroad for six weeks. Sheargued that her name was placed on the ECL without notice. She requestedthe court to allow her to travel to London to care for her father NawazSharif who is dependent on her since her mother’s demise.

Maryam who is currently on bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, made thefederal government, the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau(NAB) and others respondents in the petition.

On Friday, NAB had approached the Supreme Court (SC) seeking cancellationof Maryam’s bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. NAB requested SC todeclare the LHC’s verdict null and void.
