Pakistan achieves diplomatic success at UN while India stood isolated against Pakistan

NEW YORK – Pakistan achieves diplomatic victory at the United Nations whileIndia stood isolated against Pakistani move.

Three resolutions proposed by Pakistan were adopted on Thursday by theUnited Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) First Committee with overwhelmingsupport, however, India was the sole country to vote against the resolution.

The resolution on conventional arms control was adopted by a large majorityof 179 countries.

The resolutions focus on regional disarmament, conventional arms control atregional and subregional levels as well as Confidence Building Measures(CBMs) in the regional and sub regional context.

Pakistan’s Ambassador at the UN Maleeha Lodhi described the adoption ofthese resolutions with the support of an overwhelming majority of countriesas acknowledgement of Pakistan’s commitment to promote the objectives ofregional and global disarmament.

She also stated that these resolutions represented Pakistan’s contributionto furthering the goals of regional and global disarmament within theframework of the United Nations and demonstrated the country’s commitmentto strengthening international peace and security.
