Senate Chairmanship: Nawaz Sharif plays the master stroke

*ISLAMABAD:* Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif hasplayed his master stroke by nominating a senator from Balochistan for theslot of Chairman Senate.

Former PM is playing his cards quite smartly, as he has decided to nominateMir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, the president of the National Party, for thecoveted slot of the Senate chairman, it has been learnt reliably.

Sources privy to the development told Pakistan Today that the Nawaz Sharifdecided to nominate Bizenjo for the chairmanship after the PakistanPeople’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari turned down a proposalfloated by him to name outgoing Senate chairman Raza Rabbani as a jointcandidate for the top slot.

PTI and Balochistan Chief Minister had demanded that the new ChairmanSenate should be from Balochistan.

However, whom the slot of deputy chairman will go to remains undecided. Thesources confided that the nomination for the slot of the deputy chairmancould not be made; however, a decision in this regard will be taken aftertaking all the allies into confidence.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress to woo other parties, the sourcesclaimed that the PML-N will soon be in a position to appoint its handpickedchairman for the upper house.

Nawaz Sharif and the heads of the allied parties, including JamiatUlema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman, Pakhtunkhwa Milli AwamiParty (PkMAP) head Mahmood Khan Achakzai and National Party (NP) PresidentMir Hasil Khan Bizenjo are in Islamabad for past two days in a bid togarner the required support for the top slots.

The Sources revealed that the PML-N has succeeded in wooing its alliedparties, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led JUI-F, PkMAP, NP, and twosenators from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
