TEHRAN: More than one ton of heroin busted in NW Iran. The illicit cargo, confiscated on Sunday, consisted of plaster
panels with the heroin stashed amongst the panels.
Director of Bazargan Customs Office, Ali Masoumi, said the narcotic drug was confiscated owing to X-ray systems and trained sniffer dogs.
This is reportedly the largest heroin seizure in recent years.
According to the data provided by Iran’s Customs Organization, drug bust has jumped from 18 tons in 2013 to more than 154 tons in 2017, with a 740 percent increase.
During three consecutive years (2016 to 2018), Iran’s Customs Organization has managed to hold the record for drug discovery.
Equipping the country’s customs terminals with advanced X-Ray systems has significantly contributed to the achievement.
