After Senate, MQM to face yet another big political blow

KARACHI – After Senate elections now MQM is likely to get another bigpolitical blow in the Sindh Assembly.

Political parties in Sindh Assembly (SA) are in talks to remove MuttahidaQuami Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Khawaja Izharul Hassan as OppositionLeader.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP)have joined hands to consider a new Opposition Leader in the SA.

PML-F and PSP can attain 30 votes to remove Khawaja Izhar from the positionby converging with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and National Peoples Party (NPP).

It was told that certain estranged members of MQM-P will also support themove.

There are 37 MPAs of MQM-P in Sindh Assembly out of which some have joinedPakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Other MPAs are divided between Bahadurabadand PIB Colony factions.

It is expected that 25 MPAs of MQM-P will vote in favour of removingKhawaja Izhar as Opposition Leader if the issue is raised. The appointmentof new Opposition Leader may help both government and opposition in formingcaretaker setup, sources added.
