Ishaq Dar extradition: Pakistan approached British government

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan government has approcahed the British government overextradition of Ishaq Dar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesdaythat it was awaiting British government’s reply regarding the extraditionof former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

A three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) SaqibNisar resumed hearing of a case pertaining to his repatriation Dar. Duringthe hearing today, the CJP inquired about progress made for Dar’sextradition, local media reported.

The former finance minister has been absconding case proceedings since 2017and has already been declared an absconder by an accountability court.

The CJP showed disappointment saying that the government had not takensteps to bring back the former finance minister. The foreign ministryrepresentatives informed the bench that they were awaiting the Britishgovernment’s reply. The bench then adjourned the hearing for a month.

Last year, National Accountability Bureau on an accountability court’sorders had seized Dar’s assets and other properties. Dar was also indictedby the accountability court in a corruption trial against him.
