Relief for PTI Chairman Imran Khan from IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday formed a commissionto investigate allegations made by PTI lawyers regarding their denial ofentry into Adiala Jail. The court’s decision followed a petition submittedby the legal team of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI).

Imran Khan’s lawyers argued that being denied access to him infringed onhis fundamental right to legal representation, regardless of whether thetrial was being conducted inside the jail. The IHC recognized theseconcerns as a serious issue, emphasizing that it affects the right tojustice.

The court highlighted the conflicting claims made by jail authorities andthe legal team, making an impartial investigation necessary to ensurefairness. In a written judgment, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan stressedthe need for the judiciary to appoint its “eyes and ears” to conduct anindependent review of the matter.

The commission, consisting of three lawyers – Zopash Khan, Mubeen Awan, andZohaib Gondal – has been assigned to monitor the situation.

Each member of the commission will visit Adiala Jail on court hearing daysto ensure the lawyers are granted proper access.
