*ISLAMABAD – The federal government did not issue an NOC to former armychief Gen (retd) Raheel Sharif to work abroad, said the attorney-general.*
On August 1, the Supreme Court had asked for NOCs and records to prove thatLt General (retd) Shuja Pasha and General (retd) Sharif have been allowedto work abroad.
On Tuesday, the attorney-general told the court that Sharif obtained hisNOC from the defence ministry. He said that as per court orders, thefederal government refers to the cabinet, and Sharif did not obtain his NOCfrom the cabinet. Instead, the defence ministry issued the NOC afterapproval of the GHQ, he said.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar said that the defence ministry could not issue anNOC as the cabinet takes such decisions. He ordered that the fault in theNOC be fixed with the cabinet’s approval. The attorney-general sought timefor this.
The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.
