Pakistan takes yet another initiative for digital Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, DrKhalid Maqbool Siddiqui had a meeting with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) ofSmart Dubai, Wesam Al Abbas Lootah in Dubai and discussed digitaltransformation of governance in Pakistan.

Both Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Chief Executive Officer of Smart Dubaialso discussed to expedite progression in this regard.

Dr Khalid Maqbool on his way back from Barcelona, Spain after attendingthe GSMA Ministerial Programme at World Congress, 2019 had a brief stopoverat Dubai.

During meeting with Mr Lootah, the minister shared different initiativesundertaken by Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications inPakistan for digitalising government systems and processes, a messagereceived here onThursday said.

He appreciated the vision of top leadership of Dubai and United ArabEmirates (UAE) government for taking extraordinary measures in exemplarytransformation ofDubai governance system.

The minister said the experience and knowledge base of Smart Dubai couldhelp the government of Pakistan to improve and expedite digitaltransformation process in the country.

Journey of government of Dubai towards Digital Transformation and how ithelped them in optimizing government’s operations as well as citizensfacilitation was also discussed during the meeting.

Mr Lootah informed Dr Siddiqui that drive for e-governance had started backin 2002 in Dubai with a vision to transform public services in to digitalecosystems.

Sharing digital transformation experience of Dubai government, Mr Lootahexplained, in first phase of digital transformation of governance, whichspanned over a period of slightly more than a decade, all public services,back office operations and transactional systems were brought underumbrella/portal of “dubae.ae.”

In second phase of transformation, all services offered over web portalwere additionally migrated over a smart mobile application and morefacilitative portal called “Dubai Pulse” was introduced for offering singlewindow facilitation tocitizens for all types of utilities and public services.

The meeting concluded on an understanding of furthering cooperationbetween Smart Dubai and Ministry of IT & Telecom for knowledge sharing andcapacity building initiatives as a kick-starter.
