Pakistan makes am offer to the Canadian businessmen

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua Thursday invited the Canadianbusinesspersons to explore the budding market of Pakistan.

In a telephonic conversation with her Canadian counterpart and DeputyMinister for Foreign Affairs Ian Shugart, the foreign secretary informedhim that it was the government’s priority to facilitate foreign investorsin the country, said a press release issued here. During the conversation,challenges related to Pakistani nationals for obtaining Canadian visas werealso discussed.

They also reviewed the the bilateral relationship between the two countriesand the evolving regional situation.

Foreign Secretary was scheduled to travel to Ottawa for the next round ofPakistan-Canada Bilateral Political Consultations on March 7 but the visitwas postponed due to the prevailing situation. The two sides also discussedareas of mutual interest including enhancing political engagement,exploring avenues of economic cooperation, bilateral trade and consularmatters.

Janjua also briefed Shugart on the ongoing situation between Pakistan andIndia. She underscored Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in theregion and highlighted the efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan inde-escalating the tensions across the Line of Control (LoC).

She said the return of the Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan withhonor to the Indian side within two days of his captivity on the Pakistanisoil was a reflection of Pakistan’s resolve to decrease the tension in theregion.

Shugart expressed satisfaction over the historically cooperative ties withPakistan and agreed to high level exchanges to further boost the existingrelations.

He appreciated Pakistan’s gestures to de-escalate the situation andreiterated the Canadian government’s stance of suggesting restraint anddiplomatic engagement between Pakistan and India.
