British Council in Pakistan launched new initiative for IELTS test in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – British Council in Pakistan has launched computer based testunder which test takers will now be able to take IELTS on a computer, withthe computer-delivered test due to be launched at test centres in Karachi,Lahore and Islamabad from 24th February.According to the statement of British Council on Thursday,computer-delivered IELTS will not replace paper-based IELTS but ratheroffer a choice in delivery and more availability.It was stated that over the years, the British Council in Pakistan has beenat the forefront of providing opportunities to students and professionalsnationwide through IELTS, helping them realise their ambitions.Test takers can now choose the option and time to take IELTS that bestworks for them. They can also get their results faster, with resultstypically available between five to seven calendar days after the test hasbeen completed.The test content, timing and structure remain the same in both options and,importantly, the Speaking test remains face-to-face with a certified IELTSExaminer. Whether test takers take IELTS on paper or computer, they can beconfident that they are taking the same trusted English language test.The computer-delivered solution which has been developed is secure andcapable of delivering the world-leading security, quality assurancemeasures and operational benefits that IELTS is renowned for.Test takers who choose the option of taking IELTS on a computer can accesssupport materials with which to prepare for the test.The British Council’s Country Director Pakistan, Rosemary Hilhorst stated:“I am delighted to announce the launch of computer-delivered IELTS. Afterincreasing our network of IELTS test centres to 14 cities across Pakistanlast year, this is yet another initiative to meet growing demand. With thelaunch of computer-delivered IELTS in Pakistan, we aim to provide our testtakers with greater flexibility along with the convenience of choosing theIELTS delivery method that suits them best.”

It is worth mentioning here that IELTS is one of the world’s most popularhigh-stakes English language tests, with over three million tests taken inthe past year, and is recognised by more than 10,000 universities, schools,employers and immigration bodies.

IELTS is the most widely used test of English for migration to Australia,Canada, New Zealand and the UK. It is recognised by more than 10,000universities, schools, employers and immigration bodies, including alluniversities in Australia and the UK and many of the leading institutionsin the USA.
