DUBAI – Pakistan has been reelected for the Administrative Council of theInternational Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Monday.
During the elections held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday,Pakistan bagged a four-year term (2018-2022) in ITU.
Pakistan secured 155 out of a total 177 votes to become one of the 13countries elected to this significant body from the Asia and Australasiaregion.
ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information andcommunication technologies – ICTs. The agency allocates global radiospectrum and satellite orbits, develop the technical standards that ensurenetworks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improveaccess to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.A
As a member, Pakistan will continue to remain actively engaged with thework of the council and in collaboration with member states endeavour tomake ITU stronger and more responsive to the contemporary challenges andopportunities in ICTs.
