Dr Amir Liaqat Hussain TV Ban: Supreme Court to hear plea

KARACHI: The Supreme Court is set to hear the plea of Dr Aamir LiaquatHusain on 6th February regarding the ongoing case in Islamabad High Courtby Justice Shaukat Aziz, where the judge gave remarks to put a lifetime banon Aamir Liaquat.

Dr Aamir Liaquat Husain is not only a well-known personality in Pakistanbut his popularity exceeds borders. His name was mentioned thrice amongthose few Pakistani’s who were consistently named in the list of 500 MostFamous & Influential Muslims of the world.

He has also been a former Minister of Religious Affairs. However, he hasbeen barred to appear on television for 63 days now. From restricting himto give any news analysis to using his voice, image or advertisement; hehas been banned. His website & facebook page with over 25 lac likes is alsofacing shut down in Pakistan.

It is interesting to note that a petition was filed against Dr AamirLiaquat Husain in Islamabad High Court, where without listening to him, hewas banned for 28 days.

On the next hearing, the petitioner requested to take back his petitionbut the Senior Judge Justice Shaukat Aziz refused and criticized a defenseinstitution in response to this. The judge reprimanded and declared thatthe petitioner and Aamir Liaquat has relations with a ‘defenseinstitution’.

Justice Shaukat Aziz ruled to keep the ban intact and ordered Aamir Liaquatto submit is response in 15 days. However, the court did not hear the caseon its given date after the response was submitted. Now the case is set tobe heard on 6th February in Supreme Court.

In the beginning of 2017, Justice Shaukat Aziz was the same Judge whoremoved the ban from Aamir Liaquat, allowing him to continue his program.

Dr Aamir Liaquat Husain with Advocate Baber Awan’s mediation has challengedthe early decision of Islamabad High Court in the Supreme Court of Pakistanand has submitted a legal appeal and requested the court that in light ofArticle 19, his basic rights for freedom of speech are being divested.

In the appeal he has mentioned that media industry is his bread and butterand there are 22 families connected to him that are jobless &restricted towork from the last 4 months. Dr Aamir Liaquat also requested the court thathe has always respected the court and that this case already exists inSupreme Court; heard by Justice Saqib Nisar last year.

Last year, Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered Aamir Liaquat to send thetranscript of his programs and the anchor had submitted the transcripts inthe honorable court till his last program.

Dr Aamir Liaquat Husain said ‘the most shocking part of this case is that Iwas banned when I wasn’t doing any program on TV’

The ban on Aamir Liaquat Husain has suppressed a bold voice against theatrocities of India, which is being felt by viewers and followers all overthe country. The masses are looking forward to the hearing on 6th Februarywhere likely Chief Justice Mr Justice Saqib Nisar will hear the case ofAamir Liaquat Husain.
