Afghan Taliban kill 10 police officers in Helmand in an attack on Police

LASHKARGAH – One Afghan Local Police (ALP) member was killed and sevenothers were wounded in a Taliban attack on their check-post in southernHelmand province, officials said on Tuesday.

A well-placed government source, who did not want to be named, told PajhwokAfghan News the militants attacked the check-post in the Aab Pashak area ofGreshk district late on Monday night.

One policeman was killed and four ALP and three ANA personnel woundedduring the firefight, he said, adding the insurgents had also sufferedheavy casualties.

Omer Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, verified the attack, saying foursecurity personnel were injured. The militants suffered huge casualties,the official said.

On the other hand, the Taliban confirmed the clash. Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, thegroup’s spokesman, claimed the rebels had overrun the post in Greshk.

He claimed 10 policemen, including their commander Shamsullah, had beenkilled and several others wounded. Some weapons and ammunition had alsobeen captured from security forces, he said.
