Supreme Court annoyed over intelligence agencies

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar showed anger over thefailure of Intelligence agencies failure to a submit report regarding thearrest of suspended SSP Rao Anwar in the Naqeebullah killing case.

CJP Mian Saqib Nisar headed the three member bench of the apex court, thebench comprising of Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsanresumed hearing of the sou motu case.

As the hearing began, the supreme court was informed that theInter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI) and theFederal Investigation Agency (FIA) have not submitted reports.

The bench expressed anger over the spy agencies failure in this regard andgave the agencies one-hour deadline to present their reports.

Though, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) submitted his department’sinvestigation report and the representative of IB told court that itsdeputy director was collaborating with the police totrace absconding police officer, however the chief justiceexpressed dissatisfaction over the report

IG Sindh A.D Khawaja also appeared before the court. The CJP also camedown hard on Khawaja after he informed the court that Rao Anwar was stillat large.

Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was among three others who wereallegedly killed in a fake encounter by the then-Malir SSP in Karachi onJanuary 13. After the matter surfaced, Anwar and most members of hisencounter team have since gone into hiding.

At the last hearing of the case on Feb 16, the apex court had issued acontempt of court notice to Anwar over his failure to not attending thehearing.
